About Us
Founded in 1991, Sitka Babies and Books encourages Sitka children to become lifelong readers by providing books and programs for children. Additionally, our organization provides parent education and support during the first three years of life. Sitka Babies and Books also offers a program encouraging families to read 1,000 books before Kindergarten.
Research supports that the ability to read and become literate is necessary to create successful world citizens. Sitka Babies and Books, a non-profit organization, embraces this research. We hope that frequent library usage becomes a lifelong family activity. Sitka Public Library is an active partner with Sitka Babies and Books. Monthly programs are presented at the library by the children's librarian, with support from Sitka Babies and Books, for all children from birth through age three. The programs encourage parent participation and explore not only books, but art, music, dance, sensory integration, rhythm, and play.
